Individual Talk Therapy

Why Individual Therapy?

In sessions, Dr. Carder works with people through a deep relational understanding. Talking therapy is a powerful tool for creating insight through a safe, confidential and caring relationship. Understanding where our thoughts come from, how to manage our thoughts and emotions instead of them controlling us creates higher levels of internal peace and makes space for higher quality decision making.

It can be scary to be seen, but it is also scary to get to the end of our lives and think, ‘what if I had shown up?’

The teenage years can be tough on both the teen experiencing huge amounts of hormonal and social differences, as well as the family navigating the new chapter of development. Growing up in Hong Kong can be a highly stressful place with academic and social pressures unique to the city. Having a therapeutic alliance to support teens through changing social dynamics and their internal understanding as their identity develops can be the support they need to thrive. When appropriate, family and siblings sessions are also a part of the process.

Family Therapy

Why Family Therapy?

Home is where the heart is, so when there is tension at home it has an effect on everyone’s livelihood. At times, it can feel like one family member is responsible for the chaos being felt by the family unit. Irrespective of causality, solution occurs when the family unit cohesively works together towards strategic goals.

Family sessions allow each family member to be a part of the understanding, insight and narrative created in therapy.

Dr. Carder has a rich amount of experience working with families going through divorce, adapting to change and special needs families.

Psycho-educational Assessment

Why have a Psychological Educational Assessment?

Assessments allow us to highlight areas of intellectual strength and weakness - essentially showing which areas of cognition your child is leading with. The battery of tests are analyzed and compared, discrepancies highlight learning difficulties and strengths. Behavioural questionnaires ensure the possibility of underlying or symptomatic behaviours at home and or school attributing to the bigger picture of who your child is.

Assessments provide quantifiable answers, which for some parents confirm what they have been seeing since birth. It provides a useful snapshot of who your child is in regards to cognitive levels and learning (unfortunately not other useful skills like humour and compassion).

Assessments also provide a standardized communication channel between teachers and parents, supporting Individualized Education Plans.
