What is Borderline Personality Disorder?

Rage, hostility and emotional reactivity triggered by a true fear of abandonment. You never know what you're going to get with someone who suffers from BPD. They frequently make others feel like they need to walk on eggshells in fear of 'setting them off'. They crave intimacy, and are fast to attach themselves to people, but the relationships turn toxic and become emotionally exhausting for the other party. BPD is notourisouly the toughest personality disorder to treat. In part due to the tricky nature of diagnosis and sharing that diagnosis with the patient, in part due to the work necessary to heal. We usually see BPD clinically when relationships have been severely severed and the patient is out of coping skills and options. In more sever cases Patients with borderline personality disorder are encountered in the emergency department, where they present following threatened suicide or a suicide attempt. Statistically, BPD is prevelant in 1% of the population, 70% of which are female. However, my hunch is that this is a poor reflection due to under reporting. #mentalhealth #psychology #psychotherapy #psych101 #support #helpme #help #hkig #mentalhealthawareness #kindness #hongkongmentalhealth #helpothers #inpsychwithkim #borderline #borderlinepersonalitydisorder #bpd
